Another special session is over, and the White Nationalist Texas GOP1 just rammed through more of their racist, anti-democracy agenda, betting that we’ll get exhausted and give up. We can’t.

The Big Steal
They passed new, fascist, gerrymandered redistricting maps and tossed the ones they themselves passed just a few years ago that were already gerrymandered in their favor. This is about stripping power from Black, Latino, Asian, and Native Texans, who hold the majority, with only 39% of Texans identifying as White, non Latino. Under the new maps, it takes over a million Latinos and two million Black residents to equal the voting power of 445,000 white residents. Their vote is literally worth less. It's a blatant racist power grab, and it's headed to court.
More Authoritarian Overreach
They also passed a new wave of extreme bills. They put in place terrifying new restrictions on abortion pills. With the help of extremist Texas courts, that law may steal freedom from anyone with a uterus across the nation. They passed a BS trans bathroom bill that will lead to more fear, violence, and death for some of the most marginalized Texans. They even passed "reforms" for youth camps and flood preparedness that will put an impossible financial burden on the camps, without state or federal funding to help them comply.

School Sabotage
Instead of fixing our schools, they replaced the STAAR test with three new tests, adding more stress for students and teachers, and less ability to do anything but teach to the tests.
What's Next?
Legal experts and Democratic officials have challenged the gerrymandered maps in court - a fight we'll be watching closely. It’s up to us to fight back - on the grassroots level. Action is Everything.
Vote This November
That’s right! There’s an election just around the corner (in Texas)3. The last day to register to vote (in Texas)4 is Monday, October 6 and early voting starts Monday, October 20. Texas is voting on SEVENTEEN propositions to amend the state constitution. Historically, turnout for these elections is abysmal, so our votes are more powerful. Don’t sleep on this. I’ll share endorsements details soon.

Find Your Reps
Figure out who represents you, from City Council to the U.S. Senate. Sign up for their newsletters and start communicating with their offices. They work for YOU. Bonus points for checking your State Rep’s score when it comes to voting against Christian Nationalism.
Check: Make Sure You Are Registered
Look To 2026
The primary election in March 2026 decides who will be on the ballot in November. If you don’t vote, you have no say in who runs against the fascist, extremist, racist GOP in the general election.5 Pay attention, get informed about the candidates, and get involved with a campaign you believe in.
Find a candidate, especially a local one who has fewer resources, and support them. Sign up for their newsletter, attend an event, volunteer, and if you can, donate.

General reminder to check to make sure you are registered / still registered. They love to remove folks from the registration rolls when you’re not looking. So make sure to keep checking leading up to the last day you can register.
