(But we’ll need help from our fellow Americans too)
The Texas GOP has gone full fascist:
✅ Enlisting the FBI to hunt down lawmakers
✅ Pressuring Illinois officials to detain them
✅ Cutting pay unless picked up in person at the Capitol
✅ Slashing 30% of their office budgets
✅ Canceling newsletters, blocking raises, freezing travel unless Dems bend the knee
This isn’t governing - it’s political extortion.
But Here’s The Facts
📢 The Texas Legislature still has no quorum.
📢 Texas Democrats are still standing strong.
📢 This fascist tantrum proves the GOP can’t win unless they cheat.
The Texas GOP isn’t trying to pass policy or serve the people of Texas, who were promised needed flood relief. They’re trying to force silence and punish dissent. Texas Democrats aren’t having it. And neither should WE - The People.
Take A Few Minutes To Do Your Part
It really only takes a few minutes to make the call… Yes, call. Sorry, y’all.
Unfortunately, specifically CALLING IS NECESSARY.
Email does NOT carry the same weight in a legislative office. Legislators get thousands of emails, every day. Staffers get AI reports on the emails but you have to have a huge spike - like 10s of thousands more on a single day - for the office to notice or discuss it.
When the phones are ringing off the hook, extra staff gets shifted to their phones and the office struggles to keep the voice mailbox from being filled. The ENTIRE office knows about it. And staffers chat about it, so it spreads around the Capitol complex and creates the buzz we’re looking for. That’s when it impacts an elected official. This is how Americans have always forced change.
The offices and office holders must feel the heat generated by We, The People. They either know their voters are pissed and will vote them out if they don’t heed us or they get the encouragement needed to be courageous as a legislator that day. Either way, The People are more likely to get OUR way when that happens.
Here’s An Easy Way To Do This
Thankfully, the 5 Calls app makes it super easy. Really. Pop it on your phone and make a quick call to your Texas House Representative. Use a simple script like this one to voice that you want the mid-decade redistricting effort to STOP and you support Democratic elected officials who’ve broken quorum and want them to continue to fight and to do all they can to stop this authoritarian takeover.
If you are lucky to have a Texas Democrat as your TX House Rep, commend them if they are on quorum break and let them know you support them staying away and doing all they can to block redistricting in Texas. If they are one of the few who stayed, demand they join the others or expect to be voted out. (But please don’t harass Rep. Claudia Ordaz.)
Once you make that call and find how easy it is — and that you feel better — you will know you had your voice counted. We may soon be calling our Texas Senate Reps, as well, if the bill makes it to the Senate, but for now, the quorum break is working and we need to make sure TX Dems hold fast. Be part of the pressure to force the tipping point we need.
Is the quorum break going to solve all our problems? No. But it’s currently holding the line and is moving other states to take the action we need. And it’s what Texans have done historically. So don’t let the magas tell you the quorum break is illegal. There’s no such term as “abandonment of office” in the Texas Constitution like Gov Hot Wheels wishes, but there is language specifying that quorum breaks are legal in the TX legislature.

After you make this important call, get involved in the fight and donate to the effort, if you can. But only after you prioritize the call to rock the boat at your TX House Rep’s office. Remember, Texas Progressives have always led the way in positive social change in America. Let’s do our part.
Who knows. It may lift your spirits enough that you realize you’d enjoy calling your US Congressperson and US Senator, too… Our elected officials WORK FOR US, not the other way around. Each and every one of us - The People - telling our elected officials what we want is how representative government works. Don’t cede your power as an American. We’ll miss that power if it gets taken away from us for good by the extremist GOP…
